1) CONTROL YOUR PORTIONS

2) INCREASE FRUIT & VEGETABLE INTAKE
Fruits and vegetables have fiber, and they contain minerals and vitamins. The vegetables will also help you take fewer calorie foods like meat, cheese, and snacks. Prepare healthy foods like salads with vegetables and fruits as the main ingredients. However, avoid fruits with added sugars. They increase cholesterol levels and could lead to heart diseases.

3) CHOOSE WHOLE GRAINS
You can substitute refined grain products with whole grains. For example, instead of eating white bread, use whole-grain bread. It has fiber that helps with digestion. Also, avoid high-fat snacks like cakes, doughnuts, and pies. 

4) AVOID UNHEALTHY FATS
A significant cause of blood cholesterol is unhealthy fats. They deposit in the arteries and make them smaller. With high blood pressure, the heart will work harder to pump blood, leading to a heart attack and stroke.

When buying meat, trim the fat off or buy lean meat. You can also use olive oil for cooking your meals. Replace margarine with low-sugar fruit spread and check the fat levels in processed foods. 

5) REDUCE SODIUM INTAKE
There are high amounts of sodium in canned foods, so reduce the amounts you take. Sodium increases your chances of getting high blood pressure. You should also do physical activity to stay healthy.

Your body is weaker to fight diseases as you age, so practicing a diet for heart health is essential. Eating whole-grain bread, fruits, and vegetables and exercising lower the chances of getting heart diseases.
