Children's Eye Health
As a parent, we have a lot of worries when it comes to our children. Woodlands Eye Associates wants to help with one concern by sharing how to keep your child’s eyes healthy.
Start early! Eating right during pregnancy and after will give your child an advantage to good eye health. Setting a good example and providing healthy meals and snacks with foods containing nutrients linked to eye health will be the best thing you can do for your children.
Provide sun protection when outdoors. Hats and UV coated lenses are a good habit for them to develop and to protect their eyes. As your child grows, continue to encourage these habits. And don’t forget to help prevent eye injury provide age-appropriate toys that do not have sharp edges.
As always, have your child’s eyes examined regularly. If you have any concern about their precious, developing eyes, talk to your child’s doctor. The doctors at Woodlands Eye Associates recommend an initial exam for children as early as the age of 4. An eye exam is very important to ensure healthy eyes are free and clear of vision problems.
Vision screenings at school are not a full, comprehensive eye exam. For your child to perform their best academically, clear vision is key! Any vision problem is best treated and can be corrected at an early age while their vision is still developing.
