Springtime and Your Eyes

Linkedin

Springtime is near! Flowers bloom, plants come back to life and for many, ALLERGIES arrive! Most of us will soon begin gearing up for fun in the sun while others will suffer from watery or dry, itchy and irritated eyes. The troublemakers? Dust, pollen, mold spores, and pet dander.

If you wear contacts, allergy symptoms can intensify. Contact lenses can trap pollen in the eye further irritating the eye and clouding your vision. Daily and disposable lenses can help avoid build up or irritants. And, keep your hands clean! Transferring dirt and other particles in the eye usually come from dirty hands! Think twice before touching your precious peeps!

More importantly protect your eyes from the sun! Since spring brings us outside to picnic, barbeque and play, make sure you keep those shades on! Our eyes are vulnerable to UVA and UVB rays. Wear quality sunglasses that are polarized and are 100% UV ray protected.

Believe it or not, the medications we take for allergies can dry out our eyes. Keeping your eyes moist will help soothe and improve any discomfort Talk with your doctor about nasal sprays or prescription eye drops to curb dry eye this season. Spring is a good time to check your eyes. Having an annual comprehensive eye exam at Woodlands Eye will ensure eye health for a lifetime throughout all seasons.
