Giving Back in 2020
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- 2020 has been a rollercoaster of a year for everyone, and more than ever, small businesses have suffered.
As you probably know, we decided last year to open up Lovebeans Coffeehouse as an outlet for us to give back to the community with a place to gather and a vessel to partner with local charities. Amongst the typical hurdles that come with starting up a small business, we encountered COVID-19 only 5 months into our venture.
We’ve adjusted, coming up with ways to creatively serve our customers, stay in business, and still support the community and non-profits that have faced their own obstacles during this time. We recognize that now more than ever is the time to consider the less fortunate and use the resources we may have to assist and empower them. It may not be how we planned it – but during this holiday season we’re looking back on the ways we’ve gotten to uplift the community in 2020 and hopefully spread some good news.
Angel Reach is an incredible organization that helps foster care children who age out of the system. They provide housing through their transitional living program and focus on healing emotional wounds by offering free counseling. Donations made from many of our events were given to Angel Reach.
Camp Hope is a retreat for military veterans wounded in the War on Terror. A testimonial from their website really encompasses the impact they’ve had: “I got a new sense of independence down here; I got part of my old self back. I healed in ways I didn’t know I needed to… I advocate for Camp Hope because it heals.” – Joe Bogart
We presented a worthy recipient with a $1000 scholarship through the Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum.
We partnered with the Montgomery County Food Bank to fight against hunger in our community by donating funds during the pandemic. We also currently are collecting non-perishable food donations in the coffeehouse for their holiday food drive. If you bring in a donation, you get a drip coffee on us.
Hope Family Care Ministries is another ministry we were just introduced to this year. Their motto is “Bringing Hope & Healing Amidst Loss”. They offer a community, support, and events/retreats to families that have gone through the loss of a child. We got to contribute to their goal of $100,000 at their 2020 Virtual Run/Walk for Hope 5K.
Interfaith of the Woodlands has been committed to helping our neighbors in need long before Covid-19, and we wanted to give back to them during this time. We were able to donate all of the proceeds from our #behindthemask t-shirt campaign. Thank you to everyone who helped us by buying a shirt!
We were introduced to the 100 Women Who Care North Houston group and we loved getting to know the women behind this organization. This group recognizes the power of collective giving. 3 impactful charities gave a short presentation for those attending to vote and decide where their collective donation goes. Each woman is prepared to donate $100 at each event, totaling a donation of $10,000 to the charity they choose. As they ramp up their North Houston group, we had the privilege of hosting their meeting of 30 women at our coffeehouse. We are so excited to see them grow into 100 women and loved getting to see how their events work.
Toys for Tots is a well known organization that donates toys to children that wouldn’t otherwise get any for Christmas. We are collecting new, unwrapped toy donations at the coffeehouse until December 11th.
We’ve also used our store merchandise to create gift baskets that we’ve been able to donate to several local school programs and other worthy causes.
If one of these organizations stood out or resonates with you, let us know. We would love to help you find out how you can partner with and support them!
