Montgomery County Public Health District, in conjunction with the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, is announcing some important information regarding COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Currently, vaccines are being distributed through the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) directly to individual providers such as hospitals, pharmacies, physicians’ offices and clinics. At this time, MCPHD is not involved in mass distribution of the vaccine to the public.
A few weeks ago, we were given the opportunity to write a couple of unique articles highlighting the exceptional life and business of a wonderful local candy store owner by the name of Don Baker. Mr. Baker started a family business called The Candy House, a store that he and his wife operated for over 30 years. Due to the downturn in the economy though, Don wasn't sure if his business would survive the end of November. It was a reality that many businesses faced this past year due to Covid-19 and The Candy House was looking at shutting their doors permanently.
Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott has announced that the Governor's Response Against Child Exploitation (GRACE) initiative will host a statewide interfaith Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking on January 11 through January 17, 2021. The week of prayer coincides with Human Trafficking Prevention Month in the state of Texas and serves as a call to action to the faith-based community to unite in prayer, learn more about human trafficking, and discern opportunities to prevent exploitation and support survivors.
On January 8, 2021 at about 2:00 PM, a member of a litter pickup crew located a deceased unidentified white male laying in the tree line located at FM 1485 and Tucker Road in Conroe, Texas. Montgomery County Sheriff's Office was notified and Homicide/Violent Crimes Detectives arrived on scene.
Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement following reports of a fatal shooting at Starville Methodist Church in Starrville, leaving one dead and injuring several others.
