Classes Next Week and Upcoming Events (August 30th - September 3rd)


Happy Fall y’all! We are getting into our Autumn groove here, looking forward to cooler weather and the return of pumpkin spice. If you have not been by to see us in a while, this is a great time to stop by Canopy for a visit!


Canopy proudly provides services and support anyone affect by cancer, and all services & products are free of chargeWe welcome walk-in visitors, and will be happy to provide a tour and materials to take home. Canopy is now open 9am-4pm Mon-Thurs, and 9am-2pm on Fridays.


Canopy is pleased to offer a range of survivorship activities including peer support groups, wellness classes, art therapy, creative writing, nutrition education, social activities, language classes, emotional support, and fitting for breast prosthesis and wigs.  Our programs are now available in-person! We are also pleased to offer several virtual & hybrid support for select classes and support services.


Your comfort and safety are a priority to us. At Canopy we do observe mask wearing and social distancing unless eating/drinking or in in an exercise class. We have also have air purifiers onsite in our exercise area and counseling room. Masks are available at our reception desk.


Free counseling & supportive resources are available by appointment. Emotional support is an important part of coping with cancer diagnosis & treatment. This is true for the whole family. Our oncology certified clinical social worker is available to meet with you by appointment for supportive counseling and resources assistance. We also partner with child life specialists through “Wonders and Worries” to provide support for children and teens affected by a parent’s cancer diagnosis. Our Oncology Nurse Navigator is available to offer assistance and education by appointment. Nurse navigators are an important part of your healthcare team. They can assist with education about your cancer diagnosis & treatment, connecting to medical care, and practical assistance resources.


Here are some highlights we want to be sure you don’t miss:


·         Canopy will be closed on Monday, September 6th, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.


·         On Tuesday, September 7th Nuchapan’s 9:30am “Gentle Yoga Class” will be taught virtually only over Facebook Live.


·        We are excited to announce the addition of a new creative writing workshop starting September 10th from 12:00-1:30! We hope you can join us!


·         There will be a virtual health education seminar on “prostate cancer awareness, screening, & prevention” offered via Zoom on Wednesday, September 22nd from 12-1pm. This seminar is presented by Texas Southern University and the Center for Biomedical & Minority Health Research.

·         On Thursday, September 2nd Bible Study classes will resume as a hybrid class (offered in-person AND virtually).
