THE WOODLANDS, TX – Quote of the week: “You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way!” – Dr. Seuss

School starts back up for many families this week; whether you’re trying to juggle the change in your schedule or are searching for family fun to help ease into the school year, we have the top events you want to check out this week.

ALL WEEK LONG, August 8-14
The Woodlands Children’s Museum
knows that just because the kiddos are back in school it doesn’t mean the extracurricular learning doesn’t stop. All week long, it is holding registration for several classes and camps, including the Fall and Winter Wonderseum. You can register for two- or three-day classes. Every class includes hands-on experiences with activities involving parachute play, bean bags, scarves, rhythm instruments, or puppets. From acting out classic musical pieces such as “Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saens to drawing/scribbling their feelings when listening to different styles of music, children are able to immerse themselves in a celebration of music! Each day ends with a circle time reading that allows time for each student to ask questions and express their thoughts and feelings of the story.

Tuesday - Saturday, August 9-13
The Classy Cork Wine Room
loves our teachers! Back to school is an exciting and stressful time, so they're celebrating those who work hard every day to give our kids a great education with their specially fermented Teacher Appreciation Week. All teachers will receive 10% off their entire purchase all week long, with ID.

Thursday, August 11
The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch
will host a blood drive to honor first responders from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The National Night Out Salute to First Responders Blood Drive is part of the annual National Night Out campaign for 2022. The public is invited to donate blood to show their support for first responders, and those interested in donating should enter the Township building at the Board Chambers entrance. Cupcakes and refreshments will be served, and remember: one pint of blood can save up to three lives!

Saturday, August 13
The Holcomb Family YMCA
is holding Race #3 of the Summer Race Series for Kids: the inaugural Youth Duathlon Presented by Texas Children's Hospital The Woodlands. While a Special Award Medal will be given for those that complete all three races, returning competitors and first-timers are welcome. The fun starts at 7:30 a.m. with a bike/run on the Trails near Lake Holcomb. Awards are presented to the overall top three finishers, male and female, for ages 7 - 9, 10-12 and 13 - 15. In addition, top 3 finishers in each age category will be recognized. The event is capped at 150.

Sunday, August 14
For something truly out of the ordinary, visit the Glade Arts Foundation for Escape Velocity: An Evening of Dance, Design, and AI. NobleMotion Dance has partnered with industrial artist Jared Doster, A.I. projection designer Jeremy Stewart, and photographer Lynn Lane to create a one-hour journey that transports the audience throughout the gallery. Doster’s climbable sculptures allow the dancers to vault, swing, and flip. It’s a physically exciting show; think dance meets parkour with a dash of cirque. The experience is family-friendly and welcomes audiences of all ages. It is wheelchair accessible and there will be some sensory-friendly performances where they turn the sound down, turn the lights up and have extra helpers on hand. Doors open one hour prior to the performance starting time. Late arrivals may not be permitted to enter
