Shattering the Misperceptions of Clinical Trials

HOUSTON, TX -- The Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and informing the public about the clinical research process, has announced its Journey to Better Health | AWARE for All - Houston event. This free event is open to the public and will be held November 17th, from 5-8 PM at Houston Community College – West Loop Conference Center, 5601 W Loop S, Houston, TX 77081. The event is tailored for the Houston community, featuring local clinical trial participants, healthcare professionals, and exhibiting organizations along with offering free onsite health screenings.

Event to discuss benefits and role of clinical trials in advancing medicine

In an effort to reduce health disparities and increase demographic diversity in clinical trials, the event brings together a unique consortium of health educators and clinical trial participants who will share the benefits of clinical research and the important role trials play in advancing healthcare. The Journey to Better Health | AWARE for All - Houston event is supported by local research teams, advocacy groups, and a consortium of biopharmaceutical and service provider companies. The program will answer key questions about the clinical trials process, what to expect as a participant, the benefits and risks of participation, and other valuable information.
The event will also feature a panel discussion highlighting local clinical trial participants and healthcare professionals who share their experiences and perspectives. Attend to hear from Bridget Chapital at Hypothesis Haven, Crystal Parker at Janssen, Cassandra Harris at MD Anderson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Carol Acasey at Otsuka, and Dominique Guinn, a blood and bone marrow cancer trial participant.

Attendees can visit the Informational Exhibit Center featuring 20+ local exhibiting organizations to meet, receive informational material, and learn more about the health & wellness services offered in Houston and surrounding counties. Exhibitors include Pfizer, Biogen, Janssen, Otsuka, IQVIA, CSL Behring, EMD Serono, Eli Lilly, Genentech, and WCG. Visitors can also connect with local organizations such as ECHOS, Mercury Clinical Research, Harris County Public Health, the American Lung Association, Hypothesis Haven, Legacy Community Health, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and many more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to access free health screenings in the exhibit hall, such as vision testing from Prevent Blindness Texas, free flu shots from Walgreens, blood pressure screenings provided by the Houston Community College LVN program, and HIV, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis testing provided by Legacy Community Health.
